Water colors

Mom got herself some water colors to tryout. She’s been wanting them for a long time and so have I. So guess what we did all morning? We colored and colored and colored some more. I colored some mandalas then I drew my own picture and colored it. I didn’t have a paint brush to use because it was all the way up in my room and that was a long journey away. So instead Mom had the bright idea to use a plate with some water inside it. We dipped the tips of the pencils and then colored or painted onto our papers.

It turned out quite nicely and we made a few masterpieces. Although the pencil tips kept breaking. These weren’t top quality, Mom said. She only got them to try them out and see if they worked at all. Even if they only lasted us 1 week, (because we did a LOT of coloring in just a little while), it was worth it. I enjoyed some Mommy time, just her and I coloring together. I kind of like doing activities that my brother doesn’t enjoy, that way I get to have Mom all to myself, hee.

I wonder if God feels that way about me too sometimes. He likes to have all of me and he appreciates it when I don’t share that time with anyone or anything else.

F.U.N night

More here about our family night activities, because it’s the best thing of all! Some of our favorite activities so far have been: Crazy relays by Dad, a food hike by Mom (I’ll tell you more about that one later.) My balloon and drawing activities. We tell or read jokes, share real life stories in a made up sheet tent, we had trampoline games outdoors, picnic in nature, treasure hunts, hide and seek around the house, cooking contest (Mom did that one so that she didn’t have to come up with a snack beforehand. Kind of cheating in my opinion), a walk to the store to choose our dessert together. Not a good idea because we couldn’t make up our mind on which ice-cream flavor to get. (It was my idea, heehee.) Board games, trying out Dad and Mom’s made-up games that sometimes work and sometimes don’t. We kind of help out with suggestions sometimes. I guess that could mean we create games together during our activity nights. And then we even have Brother’s games that always include some type of music or song writing, anything as long as there’s some music playing in the background or the game includes music somehow.

Oh boy, the list could get quite a bit longer but anyway, you get the idea. To sum it all up in one word it’s FUN!!! Family-United-Night! Or as I like to say “Family-Upside down-Night” because that’s when our other side comes out, our kind of crazy and silly side, really fun side. Especially Mom, you’d never guess she could make a silly face or dance like a duck. Dad at least sneaks out a little of that side once in a while when he has Daddy time with us. And the funniest is when Dad puts on an accent from another country and makes us all roll on the floor. Mom sometimes ends up in tears, from laughing so hard. We had to close the curtains the last time we did that, as some neighbor looking in would not understand what was going on. He might have thought we were meant to be in a crazy house or something.

Our Family Fun nights

As promised, I will tell you about our family nights. It’s not as complicated as it seems. Just pay attention to the name. Night – because it happens at night, well not at night but evening till night. Family – it’s because we do it as a family. If one of us is not there, it’s not family night. If one of us is sick, we pros pone it to another evening. It’s something we do together because that’s what makes it special. Even though I don’t always get along with my brother, Family night just seems to erase all those things we were upset at each other for, the week, the day or hour before. And we couldn’t have family nights without Mom’s yummy dinners. Our Friday family tradition is pizza dinner. Mom comes up with lots of crazy ways to make pizza. Whole, in shapes or pieces, folded in half, veggie pizzas, sardine pizzas, bean, broccoli, eggplant or egg pizza. You name it and Mom’s tried it, almost. I won’t say they all succeeded in being our favorites, but she’s quite good at it. There’s at least one thing we like on the pizza. Melted cheese!!!

After dinner, we listen out for our next instructions for the evening. Usually we all like to write it down, though Dad prefers not to. He’s got a brain big enough to fit all the games he wants to play that evening, without having to forget about other important things that are already on his mind. Mom writes down her plan, I think just to give her an excuse to draw doodles and decors around it. I write it mine down using the most colors possible. And Brother… well brother writes it down plainly. Family nights are different every time because we take turns planning them and we’re all so different. But that’s the best part of it. Dad, Mom, Brother and I all get a turn to plan the activity, prepare the snack and decide how late we get to stay up. Oops, but it is late. I do have to go to bed. Good night then. I’ll have to finish my activity tales tomorrow.
